Automobile Accidents

On average, a person will be involved in a car accident about once every 10 years. Car accidents are one of the leading causes of neck and back problems in the United States. Even low mile per hour accidents can cause harm to the body. This is partially due to the fact that more and more cars are better equipped to handle low speed accidents. The forces not absorbed by your car need to go somewhere, and that somewhere is you. Here are some important things to remember if you are involved in a car accident.

  1. Document everything. How fast you were going, how fast the other person was going, the road conditions, etc. Further, document how you feel immediately after the accident, one day later and one week later. If you have stiffness, soreness or anything out of the ordinary, then chances are you were injured. The problem with most car injuries is that the long term effects of your injury may not be known for years. This is why an exam by a doctor who specializes in soft tissue injures, such as a Doctor of Chiropractic, is your best option.
  2. Contact your insurance company right away. Pennsylvania is a no fault insurance state. This means it doesn't matter who is at fault for the accident, YOUR insurance will cover your medical care. So don't concern yourself with who is at fault at this point, just concern yourself with getting checked to make sure you don't have possible permanent injuries.
