Not sleeping well? We can help!

We get a lot of questions about sleeping positions! First of all, EVERYONE should be shooting for 7-8 hours of continuous sleep. However, sometimes changing positions while sleeping can be painful OR it is hard to find a difficult position to sleep in. Either way, we can help!

1)      Disc injuries typically cause stiffness and soreness to be worse in the morning.

2)      Sleeping on your stomach is THE WORST position to sleep in and can lead to an increase in low back and neck pain as well as postural changes that can have a negative effect.

3)      Sleeping on your back is an ideal position. Side sleeping is 2nd best. If you have trouble with heart issues or circulation – sleeping on your left side is better than your right. *AVOID STOMACH SLEEPING*

4)      NEVER sleep on a heating pad or ice pack. Always set a timer. Heat/Ice should never be used for more than 15-20 minutes at a time.

These are just a few of our sleeping tips we have for patients. Remember, if you have neck pain or back pain that persists for more than 3 days, schedule an appointment to see us! A typical muscle pull or twist usually doesn’t persist past 3 days. We are here to help you discover and treat the CAUSE of the problem, not just treat your symptom.
