Associate Doctor - Dr. Zak Petrak - Sarver Office

I grew up locally in the Natrona Heights community having a normal childhood through pre-school, kindergarten and 1st grade. I played outside, participated in sports and generally had very little to worry about. My 2nd grade year, at age 7, I started experiencing excessive urination (we know how kids are on road trips, but this was different), unquenchable thirst, visual disturbances, headaches and rapid mood changes. I couldn't focus in school and became very sluggish and lethargic at my soccer, basketball and baseball games and practices.I had been diagnosed with Juvenile Type I Diabetes. What that meant for me was 4 to 6 injections and 4 to 6 finger sticks every single day. Everything I ate and drank and every movement I made became a variable in a calculation meant to keep me healthy and safe. Fortunately for me, my parents were on top of everything. They made it so I still had very little to worry about. I was still able to be a kid, play outside and continue with sports.

As I approached my late teens, life became busier and more exciting. My condition went on the back burner. Blood sugars became more erratic and sporting injuries began to linger much longer, I couldn't recover the same. I then started to experience significant joint pain and swelling. My knees hurt, my toes curled, I could barely put socks on in the morning and I walked with a limp. I was diagnosed with Active Psoriatic Arthritis, my body was attacking itself again. My blood sugars began to rise because I couldn't exercise like I was used to. I felt defeated - autoimmune disease was starting to win.

I decided to see a chiropractor. Believe it or not, it was mostly for elbow pain but also every other joint pain I was experiencing as well. After a few short weeks of treatment, my joint pain began to ease and the swelling began to dissipate. I could finally move again.

Chiropractic care bought me extra years playing baseball, the sport I love, into my mid-20s. I was playing basketball 3-4 days per week again. My blood sugars were improving. This is how I was supposed to feel at my age, and thus I knew that I had to do this for others.

My chiropractic career path began 10 years ago, with 7 years of clinical experience and counting. I was finally applying what I had learned about chiropractic, nutrition and exercise to patients everyday, helping them in ways that it helped me. The results were, and continue to be truly staggering.

I have a passion for helping others through chiropractic care. I enjoy working with athletes and individuals who suffer from metabolic and autoimmune conditions (like me) such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and many others. I have treated hundreds, perhaps thousands of patients with conditions ranging from osteoarthritis and disc herniations to headaches and much more
