Magnesium!

Why is magnesium so important?

Magnesium is probably close to being the #1 supplement that I recommend besides Vitamin D3. Magnesium is so important for muscle recovery. It can help improve exercise performance as well as preventing “restless legs” and muscle cramping while we sleep.

For patients with pre-diabetes, it helps to protect against insulin resistance, but also helps patients with Type II Diabetes respond better with their medication.

It can also help to lower blood pressure! I see many patients who are taking one or more blood pressure medications and it’s not doing much. Always check with your PCP before changing any of your blood pressure meds. Magnesium can sometimes help your meds to work more efficiently.

Magnesium can also help fight depression, along with Vitamin D3!

It can help to prevent and reduce severity and frequency of migraines and headaches.

It improves PMS symptoms in women.

Do not take magnesium if you have chronic kidney disease. Clear it with your PCP first.

Also, magnesium should never be taken at the same time as an antibiotic.
